Therapy at Banyan

Individual & Group Therapy

People may arrive without a precise name for what is wrong. Something has been off for a while, or a specific thing happened, or the usual ways of coping stopped working.

Our therapists are trained to work broadly, across anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, and the ordinary difficulty of a hard stretch of life. For most people that breadth is exactly the right starting point. Some concerns call for specialized treatment. When yours does, we have clinicians here with focused training in it, and getting to them does not mean starting over.

Ways to Work With Us

Three ways in

01
Ongoing Individual Therapy
Weekly sessions with the same clinician over time. Your therapist starts with a full picture of your history and current situation, builds a treatment plan with you, and revises it as things change. Most people meet weekly at first and taper as they improve. Meaningful change usually shows up over months rather than sessions, and what you practice between sessions matters as much as the hour itself.
02
One-Time Visits
A single focused session with a licensed psychologist, built around one concern and a set of tools you can use immediately. This is for people whose time, cost, or readiness makes weekly therapy hard, and for people who want to talk to someone once before committing to anything longer. You might leave with coping strategies, a clearer sense of what is driving the distress, or a referral. There is no expectation that you continue.
03
Group Therapy
A small number of people working on a shared concern with a licensed therapist. Depending on the format, groups build skills, develop insight, or reduce the isolation of struggling alone. Offerings change through the year. Contact us and we will tell you what is currently running and what is forming.
Therapy in Your Language

The words you first learned to feel in

Language in therapy is not a convenience. The words you first learned to feel in carry associations that a translation does not. Clients often find they can name something in their first language that stayed vague in English, and that some things only become sayable once the family vocabulary is available in the room. Our therapists provide care directly in seven languages, without interpreters.

English Cantonese · 廣東話 Mandarin · 普通話 Taiwanese · 臺語 Spanish · Español Korean · 한국어 Japanese · 日本語
Broad Care, With Specialists on Hand

One team, shared expertise

Every therapist here works across the common presentations. Several also carry specialized training in a defined area. If your situation calls for that, your therapist will talk it through with you and, with your permission, involve a colleague or help you transition to one. You stay in control of what gets shared and with whom.

Our therapists consult one another regularly. This is standard practice in group settings and a benefit to be in one. What is discussed and how your information is handled is covered in your intake paperwork, and your therapist will answer any questions about it.

Getting Started

How it begins

1
Free phone consultation
A brief call to understand what you are looking for and determine whether we are a fit. If we are not, we will say so and suggest alternatives. Schedule a phone consult →
2
Provider matching
We match you by fit and by language, in whichever order matters more to you. You are not just assigned to whoever has an opening.
3
Intake sessions
Your therapist gathers history, current symptoms, and what you want to be different over 2-3 intake sessions. You should leave with an initial sense of direction.
4
Treatment plan
Within the first few sessions, you and your therapist agree on goals and an approach. This gets revisited as things change.
5
Ongoing work
Weekly sessions, with periodic check-ins on whether the work is helping. If it is not, that is a conversation, not a failure.
