Individual Therapy

Dr. Rory Tolentino Pettigrew earned his doctorate from PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium. He completed his post-doctoral residency training at San José State University's Counseling and Psychological Services Center, where he currently works full-time as a faculty psychologist. He has clinical experience in university counseling centers, community clinics, clinical research settings (including the National Institute of Mental Health), private practice, and school systems. He provides individual psychotherapy to adults and young adults.

Dr. Rory is committed to continuously learning, growing, and honing his methods to help his clients achieve their personal healing and change goals. He does this by engaging in ongoing professional consultation and clinical supervision with experts in the field. He is also completing his third year in a 3-year specialized training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). ISTDP is an evidence-based, active, and focused approach to therapy that aims to get to the underlying root causes of your symptoms and difficulties in order to promote profound and lasting changes.

Therapy can be a successful vehicle for inner change when it is a collaborative and equal partnership. As your psychologist and teammate in therapy, Dr. Rory will put his greatest efforts into working with you to understand the nature of your difficulties and the personal changes you envision. He aims to partner with you to help you uncover and overcome the underlying patterns that contribute to your symptoms and hold you back from your goals, so that you can channel your deepest emotions and desires into adaptive actions in your daily life. If you are ready to dive deep and invest in your personal growth, healing, and relationships, Dr. Rory looks forward to working with you. He encourages you to bring your best efforts, motivation, and openness to the shared endeavor.

Therapy works best as a collaborative, equal partnership. I'll bring my full effort to understanding your struggles and working alongside you toward the changes you envision.
