Dr. Junichi Shimaoka has over 15 years of experience at university counseling centers and has special interests in outreach, prevention, and community engagement efforts. He is also a 1.5 generation immigrant who specializes in concerns related to living as a person with marginalized identities, grief/loss, interpersonal difficulties, and complex life transitions. Working from trauma-informed, sex-positive, multicultural and decolonizing framework, Dr. Junichi will support you in the process of healing, self-discovery, and empowerment to live a fulfilling life that you deserve.
● Junichi is a musician at a local Gamelan ensemble and finds it recharging when learning new music and feeling the sense of “togetherness” with the fellow musicians and dancers.
● He also enjoys going for a hike with his Shiba Inu, playing video games, and also pushing himself to step out of the comfort zone and learning a new skill (eg. Improv).
