At Banyan Behavioral Health, we offer comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations to assess our patients’ cognitive, behavioral, and emotional functioning. Conducted by our experienced neuropsychologists, these evaluations are a key part of our commitment to providing personalized, evidence-based care.
A neuropsychological evaluation involves a thorough process that includes standardized testing, interviews, and careful review of medical and personal history. We assess a wide range of abilities, including memory, attention, problem-solving skills, language, visual-spatial skills, motor coordination, and emotional well-being. This allows us to identify changes in brain function that may be related to injury, illness, developmental conditions, or neurological disorders.
The insights gained from a neuropsychological evaluation are essential in accurately diagnosing conditions such as dementia, traumatic brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, ADHD, learning disabilities, or other medical and psychological concerns that can affect cognitive health. We tailor each evaluation to the unique needs and concerns of the individual, often gathering information from family members and reviewing relevant medical records to ensure a holistic understanding.
The results of your evaluation will help our team identify cognitive strengths and areas for improvement, which will guide the development of effective treatment plans. These insights also inform recommendations for educational or occupational accommodations and can be used to monitor changes over time.
At Banyan Behavioral Health, we offer comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations to help our patients and their families better understand how brain health impacts daily life. Our experienced clinicians use these assessments to evaluate important areas such as thinking, memory, attention, language, problem-solving, and emotional well-being.
A neuropsychological evaluation at Banyan Behavioral Health is especially valuable when patients experience changes or difficulties that may be linked to neurological or psychiatric conditions, head injuries, developmental concerns, or medical illnesses affecting the brain. Common reasons for referral include memory loss, concentration problems, mood changes, learning difficulties, or behavioral changes. Through detailed assessment, we can identify specific cognitive strengths and weaknesses, which is essential for diagnosing conditions like dementia, traumatic brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, learning disabilities, and attention-deficit disorders.
The insights gained from neuropsychological testing play a crucial role in developing personalized treatment plans and recommending appropriate therapies or supports. Whether the goal is to track cognitive changes over time, guide return-to-work or school decisions, or evaluate decision-making capacity, our team uses evaluation results to inform the best path forward. Above all, our mission is to provide a clear understanding of how brain-related changes are affecting each individual’s quality of life and to support them with compassionate, evidence based care.
At Banyan Behavioral Health, neuropsychological evaluations are conducted by our experienced clinical neuropsychologists. Our team consists of licensed psychologists who have completed advanced training in understanding the complex relationships between the brain and behavior. This expertise is gained through doctoral psychology programs, followed by specialized education, internships, and fellowships in neuropsychology.
Our neuropsychologists are skilled in administering and interpreting comprehensive, standardized assessments to evaluate various aspects of cognitive functioning, including memory, attention, language, and problem-solving abilities. These evaluations are essential in accurately diagnosing and managing conditions that affect brain function, such as traumatic brain injury, dementia, stroke, epilepsy, and developmental or learning disorders.
While other healthcare professionals may be involved in certain aspects of care, the comprehensive neuropsychological assessment and interpretation are overseen by our board-certified neuropsychologists. We work in close collaboration with referring physicians, educators, and families to ensure each patient receives personalized recommendations and ongoing support, helping to guide treatment planning and improve overall quality of life.
A neuropsychological evaluation is a key service we offer to help individuals understand how their brain is functioning in relation to their daily life. Our evaluations are conducted by experienced clinical neuropsychologists, who work closely with each patient to identify strengths and challenges in cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
The process begins with a thorough initial interview at our practice, where we gather comprehensive information about your medical, psychological, educational, and social history. This helps us understand your unique background and the specific concerns that have led you to seek an evaluation at Banyan Behavioral Health.
Following the interview, you will complete a series of standardized tests designed to assess a broad range of cognitive skills, including memory, attention, language, problem-solving, visual-spatial abilities, and executive functions. Testing is tailored to your individual needs, and we ensure that the process is as comfortable and supportive as possible—sessions may be spread out depending on your stamina and preferences.
Throughout the evaluation, our neuropsychologists carefully observe your approach to the tasks, noting factors such as motivation, effort, and emotional responses. These observations provide valuable context for understanding how cognitive difficulties may impact your daily life and functioning.
Once testing is complete, your results are analyzed in comparison to normative data, always taking into account your unique background and presenting concerns. At Banyan Behavioral Health, we compile these findings into a detailed report, outlining any diagnoses and offering personalized recommendations for treatment, rehabilitation, academic accommodations, or other supportive interventions.

Our Assessment Process
- Free Phone Consultation – The first step is a brief phone consultation where we gather initial information about the services requested and determine if our evaluation is the right fit for you. If appropriate, we place you on our waitlist for an assessment appointment.
- Clinical Interviews (2 Sessions, 1 Hour Each) – Once you are off the waitlist, you will schedule two one-hour clinical interviews with one of our clinicians. During these sessions, we take a comprehensive personal history, review medical and educational background, and conduct a mental status examination. Your clinician may, with your consent, also gather information on your developmental history and presenting issues from a collateral interview with your family/friend.
- Testing Appointments (4-6 Hours Total) – You will complete a series of standardized cognitive, psychological, and neuropsychological tests to assess areas such as attention, memory, problem-solving, processing speed, and executive functioning. Testing sessions typically last between 4 to 6 hours and are scheduled based on individual needs. More time may be needed for complex issues.
- Scoring & Interpretation – Our clinicians carefully analyze and interpret the test results to provide an accurate and meaningful evaluation. This process takes 3-4 weeks to ensure thorough assessment and detailed recommendations.
- Feedback Session (1 Hour) – After interpretation, we schedule a feedback session where we review the findings, discuss diagnoses (if applicable), and provide personalized recommendations for treatment, and other support.
- Assessment Report – Usually within 2 weeks from the feedback session, you will receive a written report summarizing the assessment results, diagnoses, and evidence-based recommendations.
